What's Hot: Dark Lips

The latest phenomenon for your lips has been updating your makeup routine with darker shades.

Darker shades of makeup for your lips adds pop and edge to your daily look and have become re-popular for makeup in recent months. It's easy to understand why, as dark shades can as an aura of depth to your persona and draw attention to your face. If you don't want all eyes on you, it's understandable why you wouldn't want to try out a darker shade, but there are still options and opportunities for you to rock the new makeup trend.

Darker lips are just a color, not a consistence. This means that a more contemporary option would be a gloss. I use Covergirl's Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm because it sheer but still offers that dark translucent color that you aim for.

If you want that bold color that draws all eyes to your lips, makes sure to go for a matter or cream lipstick. For these occasions, I recommend Sephora's Rouge Cream Lipstick Collection. They offer different shades, and I usually buy the color Passion Red.

With cream and matte lipsticks, there are rules and tips that you should know before treading this path:

1. Know your undertone: There are four basic undertones when looking at dark lipstick: pink, brown, blue, and red. Lighter tones usually work best with lighter eyes and darker tones worker best with darker eyes. It may also help in you work best with cool or warm colors.

2. Apply with a lip brush: Dark lipsticks always require precise movement when putting it on since it's so visible. The best way to apply it evenly and defined is to use a lip brush. Swipe from the outer corners to the center, and then fill in the rest.

3. Wear it proudly: Dark colors are not for the faint of heart and requires confidence to wear it as planned. Dark lips are a statement piece, so wear it like you have no doubts because it gives you a characteristic to display.

Muse Monday: Leandra Medine

Leandra Medine is one fashion blogger I respect and appreciate the most, and she deserves all the respect she gets.

For those who don't find her familiar, Medine has been running the blog "Man Repeller" since April 2010. The has described a man repeller as "she who outfits herself in a sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex." They can usually be seen wearing harem pants, boyfriend jeans, shoulder pads, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry, or clogs.

Medine is looked at by many as being a prime example for professional fashion bloggers, but popularity didn't happen just because she looked great.Not only is she fashionable, but she's also funny. Medine mixes a comedic style into her post to, making her updates not only educational in the ABCs of fashion but entertaining as well.

From success on her blog, Medine has been working to make more impacts in the fashionsphere. Just a couple years ago, she released a memoir about before, during, and after the creation of "Man Repeller" (definitely going on my reading list).

I truly look up to her in the way she has built up her business and how she has continued to express herself no matter what others feel about her style in the past 5 years.

Sunday Surprise: My Struggle for High-Waisted Jeans

Since the re-submersion of high-waisted jeans and shorts, I have struggled to find pairs that fit me.

Jeans have never been hard for me to find before. Sure my top to bottom rations may be a little bit off (Medium/Large in shirts and size 14/16 in jeans) at times, but the only time that is ever a problem is if I glance at rompers or sulk over a really cute dress that wouldn't cover anything if I wore it. With these facts in mind, it was shocking to me that I could never find in high-waisted pants.

The spot usually go to find what is called "plus size" jeans was Forever 21. I don't know if every store is like the one near me, but the section for plus sized women only several feet bigger than my bedroom. With what little they offer, I had never seen high-waisted jeans in my size at a Forever 21.

Two weeks ago, I entered my local with high hopes that since their shorts (in their bizarre sizes) were abundantly stocked. I always look throughout the year for high-waisted pants in my size, but had not seen them bigger than size 31 (yes, different sizing system). This time when I looked through the plus sized apparel, a bright beam of light shined down on high-waisted jeans in two different colors than I had yearned to buy, and the greatest thing about it was their price of $12.

Even though it was still cold in Ohio, I bought them in advanced for the spring and summer season. I had never worn a pair before because of lack of availability and was super pumped to see how great they actually looked. Along with being super soft and fitting, it was great to see that they went just above my belly button (allowing them to pass high-waist criteria). I will finally be able to wear criteria.

While this experience was and still is exciting for me, it makes me upset to know how hard it is to find several current fashion pieces in bigger sizes. Even though I wear shirts and dresses offered in high quantity, I struggle to find jeans in my size, and I'm sure that for plus sized clothing, the problem is more than just in high-waisted jeans.

New Beginnings: I'm Back and I'm Sorry!

Well in case you haven't noticed, I haven't posted anything since the end of the last year.

I won't make excuses for not posting, but I do give the biggest apology to all my readers. With me not posting, I have also rediscovered some knew things about my style.

To be honest, I feel like before this moment in time, my style wasn't really mine. I was copying what other bloggers thought was the new cool thing, but this is MY blog, not theirs.With this discovery, I have decided to start anew and show my true style, no matter what others think.

On that note, I have considered removing most/all of my past post. I feel like if I'm starting over, I should REALLY begin again and just get rid of all the junk.

With the reboot of Frugal & Lace, I will be posting 2-3 times a week: Sunday Surprise, Muse Monday, and What's Hot Wednesday. The only planned exception is this week, which I will use as time to organize my life and my blog, since it will be my Spring Break.

Even though we are already about 1/4 of the way through the year, I feel this is what the blog needs: A cleanup and more me. Although I will still take suggestions on what readers want in the future.
