Sunday Surprise- Thoughts on Shaving for a Role

I was surfing the internet earlier this week and saw an article about Joey King (pictures to the left), who recently started in the film,  "Wish I Was Here" with Zach Braff. What really got my attention in the article was the Joey's head was shaved on screen! I couldn't help but give the teen props for having the courage to do shave her head for millions to see.

After finishing the article, I continued to think about all the women over the past couple of years who have shaven for roles. Natalie Portman, Demi Moore, Keri Russell, and more recently Anne Hathaway. After thinking and putting myself in the situation of shaving my head, I had instant respect for any women who will do or have done it for a part.

I had a hard time cutting my hair and I believe that it could be the same for other women. A little over a year ago, I cut my hair quite a bit, but unlike these women, my hair was unhealthy and needed the cut and wasn't nearly as short. Losing so much hair isn't something that was probably decided on in 5 minutes. Theses stars years growing it out, and losing it in minutes must hurt the heart at least a bit. Shailene Woodley is one of the latest stars to have a big chop and you can watch it happen on YouTube. Let's just say, it's worse than "The Fault in Our Stars" trailer.

Though, if I may say, I like several of the star better with shorter hair. I feel like it gives me a new perspective on stars and it just looks better in the in all ways, Shailene and J.Law are my two favorite with the pixie cut personally.

Who's a star you think rocks the short hair?

What's Hot- Pastels

What makes one piece of clothing different from another is its aspects of detail. Print, color, stitching, and so on are what make the clothing on our back and something you should be filling your closet with this summer is pastels.

These playful colors will definitely be replacing neon this year no doubt. Some may say to save it for spring, but this is something you should never hesitate to wear, especially this summer. I think that a fashion dare for me this year will be trying pastels in the winter. I love the thought of pure snow with these soft colors sticking out.

This fashion favorite differs from some of my other recent ones because its a color and not an item of color, so when I say it can go with anything, it can go with ANYTHING. Check out some of the items that I adore:

So if you haven't yet, make pastels a priority next time you go shopping. If you want just a small flair, you can go with a couple bracelets or nail polish, but if you want to make it the main appeal of an outfit, make sure you sow off a cute skirt or rock a pair of pastel pumps.

Muse Monday- Jessica Rey

I usually do actresses or musicians for Muse Monday, but I would like to mention a woman by the name of Jessica Rey that caught my attention (in a positive way) last year. I watched an interesting video of her talking at a conference about modesty and swim suits.

Now if you didn't see my article about High-Waisted Swimsuit Bottoms, you probably don't know my strong views on bathing suits and how I can get very specific about the ones I buy. Watching Jessica's video only furthered my views about modesty being the best policy. I often get one pieces, but when getting two pieces, I'll get a tankini or boyshort bottoms.

If you don't recognize her name but have seen the face, you may have seen her on Power Rangers as Alyssa Enrile. I didn't know this till I did research on her. What I know her for is her swimsuit line, Rey Swimwear. This line was inspired after doing research and going in-depth on the history of the swimsuit and how it ties in with modesty.

All three of these swimsuits are sold on the swimwear website (just make sure you buy them quick, they sell out fast). You don't have to be older to wear them either, they now sell in kids size. Personally I think these are way cuter than any suit you can get in stores.

If you want to know more about the line or the history of swimwear, be sure to watch Rey's video:

Sunday Surprise- Summer Read

I've decided that I need a day to just post whatever I want, and that day will know be devoted to Sunday. I already have scheduled post for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays so I thought I can only add to the fun by giving you a surprise every Sunday, right?

Anyways, one of my favorite hobbies is reading (I'm a binge reader). As long as the book can get my interest, I will read any genre. This week I happened to go by goodwill and find a book sacredly devoted to the life of Anna Wintour, Vogue's current editor-in-chief. It's very fascinating yet awkward to look so in-depth into one person's life. Wintour remains a mystery to most but this book helps in a way to get an understanding of her character (none the least intimidating). I don't know how she appreciated the book but I decided it could be a good read for spare time.

Later this week, I also picked up a copy of InStyle (cover interested me while waiting to check out at the store). Magazines are always good for light reading and you can pick different subjects of them just about everywhere. This specific issue is coming in handy with blog post but I also got to read an interview with Kate Hudson. I'm starting to love her (it all started after watching Bride Wars) and can't wait to see her next upcoming works. Not to mention the, dress she wore to the "Wish I Was Here" premiere was kind of flawless.

This is definitely not all I'm reading this summer but it a great start.
