What's Hot- Hip in Hunter Green

I have been basking in the color maroon for quite some time now. It's marvelous dark color always seems to interest me, but with fall around the corner, I seem to be taking more of a liking to dark green.

Hunter green recently caught my attention when I went shopping and several stores featured it in every possible piece of clothing. Wanting to try out a new color, a bought several items to mix into my usual attire and have been falling in love with it more every time I wear it.

This is the first time I have had an abundance of green in my closet. I have never really taken a liking to the color since it never really offered me anything good. I didn't look especially tan in the color and it didn't make my eyes pop.

I've come to realize that it does go quite well with my dark brown hair. I think a darker green has a good balance between calming and boldness.

The color is meant to be worn elagently, and therefore should be worn to impress. Whenever I think of hunter green, I usually think of a very formal or nice skirt of some sort.

Don't be green with envy this fall, pick up this color for yourself!

Muse Monday- Aubrey Plaza

I love comedy with a burning passion. Watching someone else tell jokes is something I much enjoy but I would never have the gall to actually get on stage or be in a movie and have to say something unique and funny. One person that I love to watch is Aubrey Plaza.

I first saw Plaza after watching her on Parks & Recreations, and decided that she was amazing after seeing Safety not Guaranteed. She uses a sense of humor isn't sweet kiddie jokes; she can tell you something very seriously with a deadpan look and its your job to know it's sarcasm. This is my type of comedy.

Like many amazing people, Plaza wasn't born into stardom. She is the oldest of three sisters and was born in Delaware. At a young age she became an avid lover of "Saturday Night Live" and started to look into how she could one day become a member of the show and get into improv. After getting experience in improv, being an intern on SNL, and studying film at NYU, she didn't make the cut after auditioning for the show but was offered a part in the Adam Sandler's movie, "Funny People".

Plaza does admit that she is almost nothing like the characters she has portrayed. She was top of the class in
high school, and was president of everything she could get the title for. She wasn't how you would expect most comedian to be, murmuring comments to themselves in the back of the room or being called the class clown.

I am really excited to see what's next for Plaza. It has recently been confirmed that she will be voicing Grumpy Cat in the upcoming Lifetime Christmas move, "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever".

What's Hot- See Through Style

After through doing my daily scroll through Pinterest, I came upon an peculiar item of clothing: A see through rain coat. At first look, I couldn't understand why anyone would want to wear one. What purpose does it serve? But after continuously glancing at it, it had an appeal that I couldn't pass up: being capable of seeing the outfit I spent an hour to put together even when it's raining.

It's not something you would see everybody walking down the street in. Although it would catch eyes, the idea of plastic clothes is something seen before. The see through fashion was used by several of the top designers back in 2012 such as Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, and 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Obviously, it wouldn't be the first thing to grab on a cold winter day, but go ahead and grab it for the drizzle in June. I like the idea of it not having sleeves because it wouldn't be very comfortable having the plastic constantly sticking to your arms or making an irritating noise every time you move a muscle.

The idea of a plastic umbrella is one that I have always loved, but I am now more interested in other plastic fashion. A clear plastic skirt would be cool if done right. You would obviously need to wear something under it like shorts or another skirt, but I would be willing to try it. Would you try plastic clothing?

Insulting Shirts are not a Trend

This week, Urban Outfitters came out with representing the shooting at Kent State University in May 1970. I most likely wouldn't have a deeper anger against urban outfitters it it said something as simple "Remember those lost: Kent State 1970", but I have now come to believe that they are looking to give out more public apologies. It's a red tie-dye sweatshirt with what I believe could be called quite realistic blood splatter. Need a visual? Here you go:

Maybe I would be more forgiving if this was just a simple bad idea given from the company, but this isn't the first and I doubt the last time with the prior knowledge of their "Eat Less" shirt sold in 2010, encouraging people to have eating disorders.

I don't understand and believe many agree with me when I ask how these shirt went from one person's idea, to a shared idea, and through manufacturing without questioning "Is this shirt offensive to the general public?" The most disturbing shirts that explain why my hope in many is faltering are probably two that were released by Topman in 2011. I don't think there is a nice way around saying that the one on the right is encouraging raping women:

I want to understand, but I can't. These shirts aren't funny in any form as they try to make a mockery of things that shouldn't be made fun of. What's the most insulting shirt you've seen?

Sunday Surprise- Thoughts on Shaving for a Role

I was surfing the internet earlier this week and saw an article about Joey King (pictures to the left), who recently started in the film,  "Wish I Was Here" with Zach Braff. What really got my attention in the article was the Joey's head was shaved on screen! I couldn't help but give the teen props for having the courage to do shave her head for millions to see.

After finishing the article, I continued to think about all the women over the past couple of years who have shaven for roles. Natalie Portman, Demi Moore, Keri Russell, and more recently Anne Hathaway. After thinking and putting myself in the situation of shaving my head, I had instant respect for any women who will do or have done it for a part.

I had a hard time cutting my hair and I believe that it could be the same for other women. A little over a year ago, I cut my hair quite a bit, but unlike these women, my hair was unhealthy and needed the cut and wasn't nearly as short. Losing so much hair isn't something that was probably decided on in 5 minutes. Theses stars years growing it out, and losing it in minutes must hurt the heart at least a bit. Shailene Woodley is one of the latest stars to have a big chop and you can watch it happen on YouTube. Let's just say, it's worse than "The Fault in Our Stars" trailer.

Though, if I may say, I like several of the star better with shorter hair. I feel like it gives me a new perspective on stars and it just looks better in the in all ways, Shailene and J.Law are my two favorite with the pixie cut personally.

Who's a star you think rocks the short hair?

What's Hot- Pastels

What makes one piece of clothing different from another is its aspects of detail. Print, color, stitching, and so on are what make the clothing on our back and something you should be filling your closet with this summer is pastels.

These playful colors will definitely be replacing neon this year no doubt. Some may say to save it for spring, but this is something you should never hesitate to wear, especially this summer. I think that a fashion dare for me this year will be trying pastels in the winter. I love the thought of pure snow with these soft colors sticking out.

This fashion favorite differs from some of my other recent ones because its a color and not an item of color, so when I say it can go with anything, it can go with ANYTHING. Check out some of the items that I adore:

So if you haven't yet, make pastels a priority next time you go shopping. If you want just a small flair, you can go with a couple bracelets or nail polish, but if you want to make it the main appeal of an outfit, make sure you sow off a cute skirt or rock a pair of pastel pumps.

Muse Monday- Jessica Rey

I usually do actresses or musicians for Muse Monday, but I would like to mention a woman by the name of Jessica Rey that caught my attention (in a positive way) last year. I watched an interesting video of her talking at a conference about modesty and swim suits.

Now if you didn't see my article about High-Waisted Swimsuit Bottoms, you probably don't know my strong views on bathing suits and how I can get very specific about the ones I buy. Watching Jessica's video only furthered my views about modesty being the best policy. I often get one pieces, but when getting two pieces, I'll get a tankini or boyshort bottoms.

If you don't recognize her name but have seen the face, you may have seen her on Power Rangers as Alyssa Enrile. I didn't know this till I did research on her. What I know her for is her swimsuit line, Rey Swimwear. This line was inspired after doing research and going in-depth on the history of the swimsuit and how it ties in with modesty.
  (Courtesy of reyswimwear.com)

All three of these swimsuits are sold on the swimwear website (just make sure you buy them quick, they sell out fast). You don't have to be older to wear them either, they now sell in kids size. Personally I think these are way cuter than any suit you can get in stores.

If you want to know more about the line or the history of swimwear, be sure to watch Rey's video:

Sunday Surprise- Summer Read

I've decided that I need a day to just post whatever I want, and that day will know be devoted to Sunday. I already have scheduled post for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays so I thought I can only add to the fun by giving you a surprise every Sunday, right?

Anyways, one of my favorite hobbies is reading (I'm a binge reader). As long as the book can get my interest, I will read any genre. This week I happened to go by goodwill and find a book sacredly devoted to the life of Anna Wintour, Vogue's current editor-in-chief. It's very fascinating yet awkward to look so in-depth into one person's life. Wintour remains a mystery to most but this book helps in a way to get an understanding of her character (none the least intimidating). I don't know how she appreciated the book but I decided it could be a good read for spare time.

Later this week, I also picked up a copy of InStyle (cover interested me while waiting to check out at the store). Magazines are always good for light reading and you can pick different subjects of them just about everywhere. This specific issue is coming in handy with blog post but I also got to read an interview with Kate Hudson. I'm starting to love her (it all started after watching Bride Wars) and can't wait to see her next upcoming works. Not to mention the, dress she wore to the "Wish I Was Here" premiere was kind of flawless.

This is definitely not all I'm reading this summer but it a great start.

Muse Monday- Bella Thorne

If talking about a young star on the rising, Bella Thorne is one of the first to come to mind. I remember not even 5 years ago reading about her getting a kid show of Disney Channel and she has far outgrown that persona.

This actress from Florida started her career as early as 9 years old and hit the jackpot when getting her own show to call home back in November 2010. Although that show ended at the end of last year, Thorne is no where close from leaving the spotlight, recently starring in Blended with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore just this year.

In recent years, Bella has been dabbling with music. She released a more retro-inspired song named "Call it Whatever" at the end of last month and hopefully more in the near future.

Thorne is currently 16 years old, but has already accomplished so much. Not to mention, the takes on the characteristics of a much older woman. Being so young and a "child-star" can be very difficult to prove yourself, especially with these logos, but Bella is proving everyone wrong while looking good at it.

(Courtesy from left to right, Left: fashionbombdaily.com, Center: cartoondollemporium.com, Right:seventeen.com)

Just because she's young doesn't mean she has no sense of what she likes. In fact, she was recently featured in InStyle magazine showing a style she calls "Tim Burton meets Barbie doll". Her looks usually feature bold colors or prints but still look put together and she can certainly rock any outfit thrown at her and put no effort into it. Above are three of my favorite looks of many and while she looks good, she still looks comfortable. Along with that note is modesty. Bella never has been known for wearing anything scandalous and that gives me some faith in humanity (where bathing suits have become just two tiny pieces of thin material).

I can see Bella doing a ton of great things in the future and can't wait to watch as it happens. Stay beautiful and keep the fashion game up!

What's Hot- Kimonos

As time passes, the temperature keeps rising. While you may be getting out the box of shorts in the back of your closet, something you may want to grab this seasons wins the weeks "What's Hot" pick: Kimonos!

Although these are as fabulous as they get, this isn't the first generation of people wearing them. "Kimono" was originally Japanese broad term for clothing but is now known for being a tradition in their culture. While women are usually the buyers of modern-day kimonos, men, women, and children were all models for the traditional garment. Another big difference is what  is what the pieces can represent throughout history. Modern kimonos usually are just meant to be a stylish accessory that shows off a personal style. Traditional ones showed indications of social status and personal identity and were richly decorated.

Presently, kimonos are made for sunnier seasons than any other. They are usually made of a very thin fabric of some sort and are move for looks than warmth. You can throw a plain one with almost any outfit to give it a finished outfit or you can get one with an awesome pattern and base your outfit around it.

If you're liking this trend but are tight on money, you can always make your own! Depending on who your are, making this a new project could make for a super fun free day. There are several patterns that are super easy to make and you get to choose you're fabric. If a DIY is more interesting to you make sure you search for pattern and videos online for help.

See you Sunday,
Gabby

Wardrobe Wednesday- Fabulous Floral

(Dress: Forever 21, Boots: Maurices, Belt: Aeropostale, Sunglasses: Forever 21, Jacket: Kohl)

This week's look is a better representation of my usual style. If you need to know anything about me, it's that I'm in LOVE with floral! It could be called an addiction and takes up half my closet. This is one of my several floral dresses and probably my favorite one at the moment. Even though this dress is awesome, it's a little weird in sizing. I usually will wear a large in dresses but when I went to the store, they had no bigger than medium. I hesitantly took a chance with the dress, and it was even a little baggy in the upper abdomen part, hence the belt. The belt has cute little colorful flowers stitched into the leather and I like it with the dress. I didn't want it to look too dressy so I added a pair of black ankle boots instead of dress shoes to the outfit to make it a little more casual. Also, I usually hate showing so much skin at the arms and the shoulders (afraid of seeing my bra strap) so I added the green army jacket, which made me feel more comfortable wearing the dress out. I will be honest, I am terrible at knowing where my glasses are and keeping them from getting broken (sunglasses and prescription ones). I picked up these ones which look similar to one of my other pairs (that is floating around my house) and didn't realize they went with this dress I purchased at the same time till I left the store. I love how the pink stand out and also felt pretty good after a little girl told me how much she liked them.

Muse Monday - Chlöe Howl

Chlöe at Somerset House in London, November 2013

Finally found something I can repeatedly do and it won't get boring: Muse Monday! Before we get started I just want to let you know that every Monday will be featuring one of my idols that has good style, confidence, or knowledge. Now, on with the show!

This amazing women is the English singer-songwriter,Chlöe Howl, who's true debut took place this year. Eventhough she's newer to the game, don't let it fool you. She was one of 15 artist nominated for the BBC Sound of 2014.

Along with rapidly gaining popularity, Chlöe turned 19 in March. She was signed only several weeks after finishing her exams and has said much of her work is inspired by being a "teenager stuck in prison [school]". She harnesses what she believes to be the true teenage spirit, meaning not a poetic and clean version. The true beauty of her work comes out through the truth of her lyrics and the help of a beat.

This is only of of the ways she is trying to speak the truth and acknowledge her responsibility with her growing stardom. She realizes that most of her fans are younger girls and that the actions of pop stars really do effect their followers. She has mentioned before that when you get fame, you have signed up to influence someone out they're and you can't just disregard it.

This girl really does do it all when you add on her since of style. Most of her looks could be categorized as edgy or indie. She channels her inner passion through and looks amped up with her edgy leather bomber or motorcycle boots. When not looking tough and glamorous, she puts together surprising combinations that are a little artsy but totally unique.

Chlöe makes up the whole package and if you don't love her already, check out her music and you are sure to be put in a trance. I definitely look forward to her becoming very well known in America and her career skyrocketing in the future!

Weekly Wrap- June 8, 2014

News 1: CFDA Awards
Everyone dressed their best this week for one of the biggest nights on the fashion calender. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. recognizes those who has made contributions to American fashion through that year (designers, fashion icons, journalist). This year's fashion icon award happen to go to Rihanna, who showed off everything, when accepting her award (if you haven't seen it, I won' be picturing it). Her dress was decorated in over 230,000 crystals and wasn't done till the afternoon of the award day. in her acceptance speech, she mentioned, "I think fashion has been an outlet for me to express myself, to speak out, say who I am, and to be very loud about it at times. Fashion should never be frustrating."   (Photo courtesy of WORD by Jessie)

News 2: Sizeable
Finally, a website has come along where we can see if the clothes would look good on us. A new Australian site was recently launched were you can see the same clothes on six different
models, hopefully with one around your height or size. The website is taking big steps while showing that one size isn't the way of real fashion. The 25-year old founder, Larissa Thorne, came up with the idea for the site years ago and since has been working to get the site up. While she is still overcoming struggles with the site, she hopes to add several more models in the next upcoming months.   (Photo courtesy of Sizeble)

News 3: Jenner's Debut Book
You probably know them from Keeping up with the Kardashians or have seen their looks on the runway, but could you soon know them as authors too? Kendall and Kylie Jenner came out with a book this week and no, it's not their memoirs or autobiography. The book is named "Rebels: City of Indra" and is categorized as a YA sci-fi. The story is about two girls, Livia and Lex, who are trying to break free from the stern dystopian society that is holding them back and reveal major secrets that are being hidden from their citizens. The book is already being compared to "Divergent" by Veronica Roth and "The Hunger Games" buy Suzanne Collins. The book has been talked about since early February.   (Photo courtesy of Karen Hunter Publishing)

What's Hot- High Waisted Bikini Bottoms

Summer is coming up quickly! There’s no better way to start off than with what’s hot (and not just the outdoors in general). This week we’ll be talking about swim suits that won’t show off too much. We’re bringing classy back with high-waisted bottoms.
This style that goes higher than just your waist has became very popular over the last couple years but has made a big appearance in fashion over the last 2-3 years. Like all good things, this fashion is far from new. High-waisted jeans came became popular in the 40’s when women started working in factories for the war effort. The 40’s was a more modest time and that is one of the several things that makes these bottoms amazing.

For many people, bathing suits can be hard to choose, especially if they are more “skimpy”. The  revolutionizing of high-waisted brings a sense of modesty, class, and poise, no matter what the pattern. Some of the classiest women in history wore high-waisted bottoms, such as Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Grace Kelly.
If your thinking that they may be too plain-Jane for you, stop now! Here’s a graph too show you only a handful of cute bottoms that you could purchase:

These bottoms come in any possible pattern you could ever want, and this is only a small variety. When going with a pattern, I personally would pick floral (because I consider it a color). This style will let you stand out from the crowd and look good while doing it.
Will you be rocking these bottoms this summer? Have you already got your suit?
Leave comments and see you soon,
Gabby

Wardrobe Wednesday- Edgy Street Couture

(Top: Forever 21, Maroon Skirt: Rue 21, Grey Skirt: Maurices, Converse, NYC Necklace: Claires, Jacket: Forever 21)

So this is my first lookbook and I'm pumped!!! Although I am usually very simple and classic in fashion, I have really been digging the edgy this week. It is so hard to choose my favorite thing about this outfit but I'm leaning towards the skirt. I stacked two circle skirt on top of one another to give it a little bit fuller look but to make it look as if I were "colorblocking". It gives the outfit more contrasting effect and can grab people's attention. This outfit is so cute I may have worn it to school but it would primarily be a concert or night-out outfit for me to wear. After picking out the shirt (with pointy shoulders) and skirt, I added a New York City necklace, black knee-highs, and my white chucks. I usually would have worn my biker boots with any of my edgy outfits, but wanted to make it a little less tough and a little more girly. The knee highs I'm wearing have been folded down a bit (I usually do this when wanting to wear knee-highs but trying not to get too big of an uneven tan line) but still add some character to the outfit. The necklace was the final touch and though it may seem random, I wanted my outfit to have a little pop sense the base colors were maroon, gray, black, and white. Throughout the photo shoot I took the jacket on and off because either way you wear the outfit, it will still look amazing! Leather jackets are one of my many weaknesses but I don't wear them often. When I get a chance to pull one out of my closet, you bet I will.
